Making digital data secure and easy to manage

A user’s information is scattered across numerous platforms. This leads to difficulty locating items, inconsistent record-keeping, and greater security risks. I designed LockBox, an app that stores passwords, documents, photos, and financial accounts in one centralized location,

RESEARCH AND PROBLEMS

Competitive analysis of five platforms, combined with app store reviews and documentation, revealed key challenges.

Manual, error-prone data entry
Information had to be entered by hand, creating mistakes and frustration.

Clunky, unintuitive interfaces
Switching between multiple platforms made workflows confusing and fragmented.

Limited storage options
Existing tools didn’t have options to store legal documents, IDs, or financial records.

Security and compliance challenges
Platforms lacked HIPAA/GDPR support, encryption, and multi-factor authentication.

IDEATION

What do users store and how do they interact with those digital assets?

I created personas for individuals, families, and businesses to understand their top needs. These personas transformed into user types to meet the needs of a diverse audience. Then, I mapped the records they wanted to store (documents, passwords, media) and explored ways to organize them with metadata.

These early layouts laid the foundation for clear, consistent prototypes.

SOLUTION

Advanced encryption and access controls

LockBox protects sensitive information with two-factor authentication, password verification, face ID when logging in and accessing stored info.

Smoothly move through your account

Users can access documents, passwords, and media in one place. Intuitive layouts and clear navigation guide every action, making it simple to switch between tasks and stay on top of what’s important.

Organized, easy to find, and shareable

Smart search, filters, and tagging make files easy to find. Detailed metadata displays and secure sharing keep information organized and accessible.

Security and compliance

Throughout the design process, HIPAA, GDPR, and authentication best practices were regularly reviewed, strongly shaping LockBox’s security features and guiding workflows for storing, retrieving, and sharing sensitive information.

Here, Face ID appears again when users want to view a specific item alongside more metadata.

IMPACT

LockBox brings sensitive information into one secure, organized space, reducing friction and risk for individuals, families, and businesses.

Intuitive workflows, structured metadata, and strong security make the platform reliable and easy to navigate, providing a foundation for trusted digital asset management.

Testing and Validation

There was not capacity for user testing during this project. If scope had allowed, usability sessions would have been conducted to validate design decisions and surface pain points early:

Prototype walkthroughs in Figma to capture user interactions and analytics

Card sorting & tree testing to validate metadata structures and how users naturally categorize files
